SPORTS INJURY TREATMENT

With any form of sports injury, conservative treatment and management is always adopted initially, unless direct surgical intervention is needed. Whether it be a mild sprain or a slow progression of tendinitis, conservative management will be prescribed which involves relative rest, manual therapy, stretching and appropriate strengthening and rehabilitation. Other techniques may also be adopted like acupuncture/dry needling and strapping.

Here at our Dynamic Sports Injury Clinic we look at managing sports injuries in a 4 different ways:

1) treating initial symptoms

2) appropriate diagnosis

3) finding and correcting the causes/predisposing factors

4) prevention via specialist rehabilitation

CHRONIC SPORTS INJURY TREATMENT

In some cases, sports injuries can be very stubborn and can unfortunately develop into chronic issues, which is a huge dread for anybody. With these issues, it seems to be the case that any form of conservative treatment you try from the above, the issue does not sustain recovery. Here, we generally offer nonsurgical minimally invasive specialist treatments to assist with healing and promote recovery. These treatments involve injection therapies and orthobiological intervention.

INJECTION THERAPIES AND ORTHBIOLOGICS

Injection therapies for sports injuries may involve pain management or repair stimulation and often come in 3 main types seen below:

Corticosteroid injection - anti-inflammatory injection

Hyaluronic acid (HA) injection - direct cartilage treatment

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection - simulation of repair/healing

(click on each of the above for further information)

Combination therapies are often use though for promoting further success. Examples being combined PRP/HA or Cingal injection treatment which involves corticosteroid and high potency hyaluronic acid.
