Sometimes it can be difficult finding the best treatment for your back pain and joint issues. But, many people seek treatment from their osteopathic. Osteopathy has many benefits, but the main benefit is to treat back pain. In this article, we will explain how and why osteopathy is used to treat back pain and sciatica.
What is osteopathy & how can osteopathy treatment back pain?
Osteopathy is a way of identifying, treating, and preventing health problems via the use of manual therapy and physical therapy of the musculoskeletal system. These treatments consisting of conservative measures - spinal / joint manipulation and mobilisation, stretching, and soft tissue manipulation / massage. Osteopathy primarily focuses on treating the whole body (skeleton, joints, muscles, and soft tissue) rather than a specific illness, treating causes of issues, rather than arising symptoms.
Here at Dynamic Osteopaths in Solihull and Birmingham, the musculoskeletal system is seen as one of the key elements of health and well-being. We believe in structure and function of the human body being linked, and that proper alignment of the musculoskeletal structure will enable the body to heal itself following injury or trauma. Osteopathic treatment provides focus on:
- Increasing or restoring joint mobility
- Relieving muscular aches and pains
- Reduce pain and stiffness in muscles and joints
- Promote tissue quality and elasticity
- Improve blood flow and fluid dynamics
Osteopathy uses a holistic treatment for joint pain and back pain using diverse techniques, including:
Soft tissue manipulation
Braking down restrictions within soft tissue and muscles. Soft tissue manipulation will address restrictions that are relating to dysfunction.
Spinal manipulation and mobilisation
Spinal manipulation is a very specialised and popular form of treatment for back pain. It is used to restore joint movement and correct spinal alignment .
Many osteopaths specialise in primarily treating back pain. Here at Dynamic Osteopaths we are well-trained specialists who can make a diagnosis based on taking you through a thorough case history and examination. In most cases we can make a diagnosis and perform treatment without the need for analysing MRI, X-rays, scans, and other sources but if necessary, we can use imaging or blood tests if needed.
Commonly osteopaths use a mixture of manual treatments depending patients presentation and overall fitness. Treatments can consist from gently massaging the soft tissues of the back to mobilising and manipulating the back and other joints. Your osteopath will advise on corrective posture, stretching, and other activities that help relieve pain. But also at the same time your osteopath will teach you on preventative treatment and physical rehabilitation.
