Back pain is a huge problem with increased ongoing concern. There are many different causes of back pain and variations. What are the common causes of back pain?

Non-specific low back pain

Very common form of back pain often as a result of poor posture or bad lifting habits.

Spinal arthritis

This is a progressive degenerative condition often as a result of age-related degenerative changes to the vertebral discs and joints. As we age, joints and soft tissues cannot deal with added stresses and strains and therefore as prone to irritation.

Sciatica

Sciatica is an umbrella term that refers to irritation of the sciatic nerve as it exits the spine. Irritation of the sciatic nerve can often give symptoms into the buttock and leg.

Sciatica is often comes in 2 common forms – 1) acute trauma - resulting in disc prolapse into the nerve, or 2) progressive spinal disc degenerative disc prolapse.

Sacroiliac joint pain

The sacroiliac (SI) joint is the joint between the spine and the pelvis which allows and transmits forces between the two structures. Even though the sacroiliac joint is a very strong joint with very limited movement, like any orther joints, this can become irritated and inflamed. The sacroiliac joint can be irritated due to many reasons, from biomechanical strain to systemic inflammatory arthritis.

All of the conditions above are very common but can be treated easily with the correct treatment and advice. Surgery should be a last resort, when symptoms are to far gone, or, when red flags are shown like incontinence.

Here at Dynamic Osteopaths in Henley-In-Arden our back pain treatment is aimed to find out what is the root cause of why and how your back pain has developed. Our back pain treatment consists of hands-on treatment and physiotherapy - both skilled treatments at reducing back pain, restoring spinal mobility and function. Our treatment is aimed to take pressure off irritated and inflamed tissues, to allow joints and soft tissues to self repair and heal.
