Common places of arthritis pain are often found in weight-bearing joints like the knees and hips, and non-weight-bearing joints like the hands and shoulders. Two common examples of arthritis are:

 

• Osteoarthritis often referred to as ‘wear and tear; or degeneration of the joint 

• Rheumatoid arthritis – this can be very acute and affect many joints which become painful and reduce the range of movement.

Predisposing factors and causes of osteoarthritis include the following:

• Age

• Hyper-mobility

• Previous trauma 

• Obesity 

• Mal-alignment / biomechanical compromise

• Vascular insufficiency

• Hormonal imbalances
